NEW: Invasive Non-Native Species Survey

Emily Smith, the Angling Trust’s new Invasive Non-Native Species Manager, who joined us last month, has hit the ground running by launching a brand new survey looking into the awareness of British anglers of conservation issues which affect our waterways. The findings of Emily’s work, produced in partnership with University College London, will be used to improve the information available to anglers about conservation issues and help anglers learn how to protect their fishing venues. The questionnaire takes less than 10 minutes

Fish Legal has sent a ‘letter before action’ to a farmer’s insurers claiming compensation for its member club Grantham Angling Association (GAA). Leases and Licences – Information for Member Clubs

We continue to receive many enquiries about leases and licences. Some current agreements are not suitable. Licences in particular are often based on old templates from many years ago, which make no provision for ownership of stocked fish in enclosed waters. The legal presumption is that without clear written agreement that the angling club owns the fish, the fish belong to the landowner. While angling clubs might wish to stock anyway in order to maximise angling amenity, many may do so without realising that they are effectively paying for someone else’s fish..

Fish Legal does not offer a drafting or negotiation service for leases or licences, but should you have a query about your fishing rights we can supply a factsheet, and make some suggestions about clauses you might wish to include and try to answer any specific queries which members have.

If You Find Sick or Dead Amphibians in the Wild…

We often hear anglers described as “the eyes and ears” of our waterways and quite deservedly so too. If you find sick or dead amphibians in the wild please report them to Garden Wildlife Health at www.gardenwildlifehealth.org and help prevent our wild native amphibians from becoming victims of invasive disease.

There’s a new Amphibian Disease Alert factsheet about the risks HERE.

Sea Talent Pathway Off To a Flying Start!

We received some great pics from Chris Clark at the first Junior Talent Pathway (Sea) session of the year held at Lepe.

Chris said “Torrential rain being swept horizontally by a force 8 gale greeted the eager youngsters attending the first Junior Talent Pathway way session of the year held at Lepe who were not daunted by the pretty horrendous conditions with the exception of the last 30 minutes when the sun poked its nose out from behind the clouds, they caught a caught a number of black bream, bass, ballan wrasse, corkwing wrasse and smoothhound. Well done to all the youngsters and a big thank you to the coaches.”
